The rich exposition named Scandinavian Design. Beyond Myth, which represents 200 exhibits from all Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden), marks the 50th anniversary of the Scandinavian design. The exhibition, whose organizer is the Oslo National Museum, and sponsor - the Nordic Council of Ministers - was shown for the first time in Berlin. Its journey includes also Milan, Gent, Prague, Budapest, Riga, Glasgow, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Oslo, Vigo, La Coruna, Sofia, Belgrade and Zagreb and it has been accepted extremely well everywhere.
Despite the mock attempt of a group of designers from Oslo to "bury the Scandinavian design" in 1980, the ideals of this design, which emerged in 1950s, have survived in the Nordic countries. This is partly due to the interest to design of this period on a global scale. A number of designers from various countries have found their source of inspiration in this golden age, as well as in modern Nordic design, where minimalism, stylization and innovative interpretation rule. Actually, quite a number of Scandinavian designers accept the tradition as a limitation, but for most of the artists it is a source of inspiration and security. The Scandinavian design has been established as a phenomenon within a half of a century and has preserved its influence so far.
