More than fifteen years Rainer Steinhart takes a photograph of museums and galleries all over the world. The relevant exhibits from the art collections do not get in the focus of his objective. His attention is directed more towards one indecisive undiscerned and interstitial world. The photographer is fascinated by the tension between “inside” and “outside” and the transition between the realities in the inner and outer space. The artists` creative force is attracted by the dynamism between the museums` world inside, which is softly illuminated and pleasurably air-conditioned and those out of its` walls. The hidden till that moment intermediate world turns in this way into the main acting figure. It offers a space for interpretations emotions and projections. Through the medium of variable intensity of the sharpness and the specific selection of the fragment the artist succeeds to reincorporate his observations in spatial compositions of reality and vision, form and colour, light and shadow, matter and reflection, reality and fiction. Instant-pictures are originating in that way which could leastwise throw a shade for a moment on the exhibits. In order to make the entire sense reception deeper the photographer combines the visual impressions with sound-effects recorded in the respective museums.
Until now the artists` cycle “Inside/Outside” is not published in its` whole volume. Only strictly selected single works were presented in particular exhibitions. Rainer Steinhart shows for the first time almost completely his works in the National Gallery for foreign Art in Sofia. So starts a consecution of international exhibitions in Europå – Venice, Madrid, Zurich, Vienna, Berlin etc.
