"ORIGINAL ARTISTIC ORNAMENTS"

30th January 2007

The “Original Artistic Ornaments” collection came into being in 1980. It was then that the Province of Pavia and the Lomellina Research Centre acted on a proposal put forward by a group of well known and prestigious painters, printmakers and sculptors, including Fausto Melotti, Pietro Consagra, Arnaldo Pomodoro and Mauro Stachiali, for the setting up of a collection of jewellery designed not by artisan jewellers but by artists, for which each participant would contribute works reflecting his or her own artistic conceptions.

The collection shown in Sofia includes some 130 items designed by such artists as Fausto Melotti, Pietro Consagra, Giacomo Benevelli, Alberto Ginzani, Alberto Giorgi, Angelo Rinaldi, Olga Finzi, Biche Derico, Mario Maioli, Marko Lobol, Angelo Bozzola, Alba Liska, Gabriela De Vecchi, Paola Crema, the Studio San Lorenzo, Lucio Fontana, Umberto Mastroianni and Emilio Scanavino. The collection of original ornaments was accompanied by a display of graphic works.
