The two artists – professors at the Academy of Arts for many years, favourites of their students – whose names are symbolic for the contemporary Bulgarian art displayed works of theirs, which broke the frames of the usual understanding about an artistic duo.
Dimiter Trendafilov, named the lonely samurai of Bulgarian calligraphy, who has been working since years with sumi ink in the spirit of Japanese traditions, showed a series of works made with a new graphic technique.
The name of Krum Damyanov is connected with the most valuable monuments and memorials in Bulgaria, such as the one of the Founders of the Bulgarian State in Shoumen (one of the most impressive monuments in Europe, which unfortunately recently has become topical again due to its bad state); the Asen Monuments in Veliko Turnovo, the Bells in Sofia, the Defenders Memorial in Stara Zagora. The apotheosis of the grandeur and suffering in Bulgarian history, achieved by means of a powerful artistic language, is the main theme of his works.
For more than two years, Prof. Damyanov has been working at the artistic ceramics base in the town of Cherven Bryag. He has set up the Passage sculpture and architectural ensemble there, which attracts many Bulgarian artists. Some of the figurines created there were included in an exhibition.
Krum Damyanov is well-known outside Bulgaria and many of his best works are displayed in galleries and private collections in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria, the USA, the Republic of Korea.
